A chronological history of jet airliner crashes.

October 26, 1952

Ciampano, Italy, outside of Rome:   A British Overseas Airlines Company (BOAC) De Havilland Comet departing from the Roman airport failed to achieve lift speed and ran into rough ground at the end of the runway.  While there were no deaths and only minor injuries, the crash marks the first by a commercial jet airliner.
